Objectives: TSWBT be able to use correct form for the set and bump while playing in an alternative game of volleyball

Equipment Needed: 9 Square court, beach ball, cones

Set-up: Teacher will set-up 9 square court before class arrives

Goal of the game: Advance through all 9 positions of the game to end up being the server. Stay as the server for as long as possible.

How to Play: Students will begin the game in one of the 9 squares with each student having their own square. The player that is in the center of the 9 square is the server and will serve the ball to any of the other 8 squares. The player that is receiving the ball must use a set or bump to return the ball to any of the other 8 squares. This will continue until someone makes a mistake.

                Players can be eliminated if:

  • They fail to return the ball into someone else’s square
  • They strike the ball and it lands outside of the entire 9 square court
  • They double hit the ball
  • They touch the 9 square court with their hands or body

Players that are eliminated go to the end of the waiting line which is outside of the court next to the number 9 position (see set-up diagram). Once someone is eliminated, the next player in the waiting line will move into the number 9 position.

Rotation: Rotations will occur in a clockwise motion. See set-up diagram for a full description.

Alternatives:

  • For younger grades that might struggle to hit the ball by themselves you can partner them up so that there are two players per square.
  • For younger grades, you can allow them to hit the ball as many times as they need in order to get it out of the square.
