To commemorate the January honoree of the South Carolina African American History Calendar, this lesson highlights and celebrates the accomplishments of the Hometown Hero A'ja Wilson.
Women were first allowed to compete in the Olympics in 1900. However, they could only compete in tennis and golf. After the decision was made to allow women to compete in boxing, women were allowed to compete in all Olympic sports for the first time in Olympic history, in 2012.
