Wacky Parts of Speech

Warm-up: (5 min max)

The teacher will say to the students  “I love to read funny stories!  I found this great website where if you know parts of speech, the funny, wacky story possibilities are endless!  Not to mention the funny pictures that you imagine when you read them!  I am just trying to remember what those words that we use when we are writing are called...oh yeah parts of speech!  Let's look at a few just so we can remember what they mean because you cannot make your own story if you cannot name the parts of speech!  I cannot wait to share my wacky story with you!  So let's see what happens when writing is fun!”

Direct Instruction: (15 - 20 min)

The teacher will use the powerpoint to review what each part of speech is using the wacky website notes to review.  

The teacher will then show the students a template from the website and have students suggest an example of parts of speech to fill in the blanks

The teacher will then show the students the finished story on the website and in google slides or docs.

The Teacher will sing or read her silly story and then show the students the illustrations (clip art) she found to go with it.
 

Independent practice: (20 - 25 min)
 

The teacher sends out a template through google classroom and ask the student to come up with their own words for a Wacky Story

 Students will be allowed/encouraged to use google docs or google slides to publish their stories.  

They will work in pairs and then create their own if time allows.  Students will be asked to share their completed product (story with illustrations-clip art or hand-drawn) through google share in the drive.  *Students are allowed to upload pictures of their story that may be handwritten with illustrations.

Closure: (5-10 min)

The teacher projects her story and then plays the music that the story was adapted from.  Students will be given the web address for the song and the Wacky Tales site if they would like to continue to work through google classroom stream.

Differentiated Instruction:

-Students can use clip art/type the story or handwrite/draw illustrations.

Small Groups:

Students will work in pairs to complete stories in the allotted time and then may make their own.
