3. (Engage/Introduction) Introduce Titanic topic to them. The teacher will read students a story about the Titanic.
4. Give students an opportunity to find books from the school library and use their chrome books to conduct general research about the Titanic. The beginning/general research page is an attached document.
*After day one, the number of days could vary for this lesson.
Day 2: Beginning Research
1. Have students work independently on beginning research using the general research form in their research journal
2. Have students complete the organizer (choosing 4 topics they are interested in on the Titanic. Attached in research journal)
Day 3: Choosing a topic that interests them
1. From the graphic organizer, have students pick one of their topics that interests them
2. The teacher should group students based on their topics of interests
3. Group members will collaborate to share their research with the other group members and add to their current research from what their group members share.
Day 4: Creating a Project
1. Students will create a poster with their group to share with the class
This poster should include a title, photos, research (facts or stories), and a list of sources.

While the 1997 film provided moviegoers with an idea of the lifestyles of the first, second, and third class passengers who sailed aboard the ship on its maiden, and only voyage, the real stories and real artifacts show a much richer picture of what life was like at the dawn of the Twentieth Century. With this activity, students will investigate the lives and legacies of the passengers aboard the Titanic by analyzing their stories and the things they left behind when the great liner sank.
