The Slime Solution
Creating slime is a trending hobby for young children. Although it is messy, it is a great tool to help with fine motor skills and even science and engineering. The problem with slime is that it usually ends up too sticky and messy. This lesson probes the question: How can I create the perfect slime consistency?

How can I create a slime consistency that is not too sticky? What is the recipe for perfect slime?

Glue, laundry detergent, water, science journals (or paper), and pencils
Lesson Progression
Day 1: Introduce Lesson and Engage Students
Open the lesson by engaging your students.
1. The teacher should start by asking the students who likes to play with slime.
2. Then, the teacher should use the smart board to write questions that the students may have about slime.
3. The teacher will present the ingredients that he/she will use.
4. Mix together the ingredients so that the consistency is sticky. Tell the students all of the ingredients and the measurements that you used. Write these measurements on the board.
5. Have students write down what they think isn’t right about the slime on a piece of paper or in a science journal (if students have them).
6. Write the question largely on the Smartboard, “How do we create the perfect slime recipe?”
7. Have students write what they think would create the perfect recipe for slime on the same piece of paper or journal.
Day 2: Experimentation
1. Have students look over their journals from the previous day to refresh themselves.
2. Put students into small groups and then pass out the materials for creating slime.
3. Let students experiment and attempt to create their own slime. Remind them to write down their measurements and prepare to share their recipes with the class.
4. Have students share their slime with the other students and read their recipes.
5. After clean up, have the students write down what they think they should do to perfect their recipe.
Day 3: Experimentation Day 2
1. Pass out the supplies again for your students. Let them get into their groups and make changes to their recipe.
2. Once students finish up and begin to become happy with their slime, give them a class iPad to take a video and post a recipe of their slime on the see-saw app.
Day 4: Conclusion
1. To conclude the lesson, allow students to be able to share their ideas and thoughts around the perfect slime recipe.
2. Go through class posts on See-saw
3. Re-write the question on the smart board, “How do we create a perfect slime recipe?”
4. Write the perfect slime recipe based on student responses and have students record answers in their journals. Students can keep slime as a product from their hard work!
