Severe Weather Safety
Students will review severe weather and what these forecasts entail, as well as learn about how they can stay at school or at home during these storms.

Lesson Progression
1. Have students take out something to write notes with, or bring them to carpet.
2. Explain to them how important thier safety is to you and to their families.
3. Ask them to name things they must do every day to stay safe (wear helmets on bikes, never touch a hot stove, wear seatbelts, etc.)
4. Tell them there are certain ways to stay safe at home and at school during severe weather.
5. Being powerpoint, stopping periodically to tell children why the procedures are set into place and how these things keep them safe.
6. Next, give them thier assignment:
Pick a severe weather to research.
If you pick hurricanes, research a specific hurricane that greatly impacted the area it hit (Hugo, Florence, etc.)
Pick 5 facts about the hurricane and write them down.
Explain how people could have kept themselves safe during the time of the storm.
Create a presentation (powerpoint, poster, song, rap, etc) to display the information you learn.
