Lesson Progression

  • Play “Flocabulary” video.

•Have a comic strip cut out in pieces on a google doc and tell the students, “I need your help. I want to read this comic strip but it is cut up and out of order.” Ask students how we could figure out the correct order. Place the pieces in a different order and ask the students if the story makes sense.

  • Tell students “I’m so glad you guys helped me fix this comic strip.”  The only problem is I still have some that are out of order, will you help me?”
  • Students will be placed in pairs/ groups in order to try and place the comic strips in the correct order.
  • They will move around the room and pull up the comic on their Chrome books.
  • They will place the comic in the correct order using clues/ strategies that were discussed during class.
  • They will then read their comics in the correct order, to make sure it makes sense.
  • The students will return back to the carpet to discuss the lesson.
  • I will ask students how they put their comics in the correct order. What types of strategies did they use?
  • I will then ask students to apply the information to their own lives. If they told a story about something and the events were in the wrong order, would it make sense?
  • Next, I will ask students, “is the order of events important while writing comics?”  “Why?”
  • Finally, I will ask students how they could apply this when they write.
