Plant Life Cycle

Day 1: Tell students they will be planting seeds to observe the life cycle of a plant. (use lima bean seeds)
Allow students to predict what will happen when you wrap the lima bean in a wet paper towel and put it in the window. They will fill out their observation form. 

Day 2: Observe plants. Allow students to draw a picture and write observations. Students will begin taking notes. (slide show included) Students may also use an interactive resource to better understand the life cycle of a plant. 

Day 3: Observe plants. Students will begin their project on the life cycle of a plant. They can use the textbook resources, notes, or research on their own. They will pick a flower of the choice list and conduct research on this plant.

Day 4-6: Students will complete research about the life cycle of their plant. They may create a one-pager, slide show, or poster about the life cycle. A rubric is provided. Each day, the students will still continue to observe plants and write down observations.

Day 7:Students will use the information they gathered during observations and create a model of the life cycle of a plant. They will use various resources such as paper, pool noodles, pipe cleaners, seeds, tissue paper, etc). They will represent each cycle in a creative way.

Day 8-10:students will continue to work on their model of the life cycle. 

Day 11: students will present their models. 

The assessment will be the one pager, poster, or slide (rubric provided).
You may also grade their models and their observation sheets.
