Lesson Progression

Students, when exploring, will need little guidance and will use manipulatives to support their thinking. They can begin exploring on their own, then with a partner or group, then have them share aloud.

The slides following the exploration slides will be supplemental to your instruction.

The "you try it" slides can be used for independent work, homework, exit slips, etc.

Teacher Notes

Differentiation: Begin with fraction strip overlays for a visual understanding prior to moving toward procedural calculating.

Extension: Give students a quotient and have them create an applicable problem. Have students research and provide an applicable real-world scenario where fractional division is necessary.
