Lesson Progression

Students will complete the Louisiana Purchase hyperdoc. 
 

Engage:  Students will learn about the Louisiana Purchase.  Their goal is to answer the question: “What was the Louisiana Purchase?” 

  • They will watch a video and take notes on the video

 

Explore: Students will do some exploration about the Louisiana Purchase. They are looking to be able to explain why the United States wanted more land, how much it cost, and how much land was purchased. 

  • Students will read an article 
  • Students will flip through an interactive PBS gallery

 

Apply: Students will create an “Instagram” post related to the exciting news that the United States purchased land from France that doubled the size of the united states. 

  • Students will complete this using Google Slides. 
  • They must include:
    • a picture
    • the date of the event
    • the title of the post
    • a caption describing what happened

Closure: Students will type 1-2 facts about what they learned during the lesson. You can make this more specific if you choose. **make sure to make your own account**
 

Extend: Students will extend their knowledge and complete the interactive PBSMedia lesson. **this is great for students that finish early or need higher-level thinking. You may choose to add this to a hyperdoc and give to students instead of the reading or video.

Teacher Notes

Students will complete the hyperdoc. All the links are included. If you choose, you could make this a group project or individual. It can also be changed to differentiate for your students. 

Make sure you create a Padlet account. Link your account to the hyperdoc so students can write about what they learned.
