Lesson Progression

T: "Today we are going to be reviewing what we know about time. Could anyone raise their hand and give me an example of a time? "Allow students to raise hands and give ideas.
T: "Those are great answers! I am going to give each of you a small clock and when the music plays, you all are going to walk around the room holding your clocks. When you hear the music stop you are going to find any chair and sit down. I will yell out a time and you will show me that time on your clock. We will do this a few times. Does everyone understand, and does anyone have any questions before we begin?" Allow time for students to answer and ask questions. Play activity a few times.
T: "I would like everyone to stop where they are and leave their clock at the table they are sitting at and move to the carpet." Allow time for students to move to the carpet.
T: "I would like for you to look at the smart board. We are going to have a quick review of different ways we can tell time." Go over PowerPoint.
T: "Before moving into our worksheet, does anyone have any questions on what we just reviewed in the PowerPoint?" Allow students to ask questions and answer them.
T: "Before heading back to your seats, I want you to grab a worksheet and wait quietly at your seats for further instructions. I have up here on the smart board the worksheet that is in front of you." The teacher will read through the directions and complete the first two problems allowed with the students. After doing the first two together. Ask if they have any other questions before letting them go off on their own to finish the worksheet. Allow time to answer any more questions. Give students 5-7 minutes to finish the worksheet. Go over worksheet and have students volunteer to answer the questions.
T: "Now we are going to do an activity based on what you guys just reviewed. Each of you is going to receive a card that has a time on it. It will either be an analog clock or a digital clock with am or pm on it." Review game with students, on how to play. Students will receive their cards. Direct the students to move and make a circle around the room to play the game in. After the game is over. Instruct students to return their cards to me and go back to their seats.
T: "Can anyone raise their hand and share with me something you have learned today?" Allow students time to reflect and share.
T: "I love how so many of you learned a lot today on time! You all did a great job and participated very nicely! It is now time to get ready for lunch. If you have a lunch box grab it. Wait for me to call your table to line up."

Teacher Notes

This lesson was intended to be a review lesson. The students should already know about time.

Differentiation: Begin with a focus on differentiating between the small arm and the longer arm. Once this concept has been mastered, move on to telling the hour with the small arm only. Once this has been mastered, add the final layer of including the long arm for minutes.

Extension: Give students two times and have them figure out how many minutes/hours had passed between the two.

Time Worksheet

This Worksheet was made for a specific 2nd grade class, and the schedule they go by daily. Everyone's daily schedule will differ.

Assessments

Since this is a review lesson for the students, I would use the worksheets as a participation/classwork grade since we will be going over the answers together. The game would be a formative assessment because this provides me the opportunity to see just how much the students have mastered the content based on how well they are able to read the time on the card they have received.
