Lesson Progression

  • Students will use the KnowItAll interactive hurricane activity. During this activity, they will click on various parts of the hurricane and record facts they learn. They should use the questions on the side to help look for important information.
  • Next, they will learn about how hurricanes form. They will take notes based on the questions given.
  • They will read an article from Readworks. This will add to their knowledge about hurricanes. They will answer the comprehension questions from the Readworks article.
  • Finally, they will read about hurricane safety. They will write down important facts and then create a pamphlet that would explain how to stay safe before and during a hurricane to a small child.

Teacher Notes

Students will complete the hyperdoc independently. If you choose, you may have students work in groups or do this as a whole group lesson. Students will answer the questions on the right side of the hyperdoc either in their notebooks or on the document (each student will need their own copy).
