How Stress Affects You
Objectives:
- TSWBT describe the body’s stress response
- TSWBT identify ways that stress can affect the body
Materials Needed:
- Laptops
- Pencil/Paper
Tasks:
Task 1: Do now
- Students will complete a quick activity before the lesson. They will write a short paragraph about a time that they were in a “fight-or-flight” situation. They will describe what the circumstances were and how their body reacted to that particular situation.
Task 2: How Stress Affects You PowerPoint
- Responding to stressors
- Short-term responses to stressors
- Lasting effects of stress
- How stress can affect your relationships
Task 3: Stress Effects Collage
- Students will be creating a collage based on 2 effects of stress. They will pick two of the following stress effects: fatigue, insomnia, forgetfulness, depression, and irritability. They will include at least 6 pictures of each stress effect as well as a description of why they chose those 2 stress effects.
Task 4: Exit Slip
- What were some of the effects of stress on the body? List at least two effects
- Explain what the body’s stress response is (fight-or-flight response)
