Hopes and Fears for 5th Grade

This is a beginning of the year writing activity in which students will think about what they are hopeful for and fearful of as they take on the new year.

Lesson Progression

1.   Explain to students what an asynchronous activity is and that they will be completing one today. 
2.  An asynchronous activity is one that is not completed as a group (independently).
3.  Students will watch a Screencastify that explains their directions and demonstrates what they should do. They are able to pause and rewind if they need clarification on certain steps.
4.  Students will complete the activity independently.
5.  Once students have depicted their hopes and fears, have them reflect in their virtual journals on either their hopes and fears.
6.  For fears, how will they face them and overcome them?
7.  For hopes, how will they celebrate when they are achieved or cope when they are not?
8.  Students may share.

Students will turn in their work on Google Classroom.
