Lesson Progression

  1. The teacher will have the students come to the carpet and pull up the PowerPoint.
  2. T: Today we are going to go over our ou/ ow words, and review cause and effect as we read this week’s story Head, Body, Legs: A Story from Liberia.
  3. T: We are going to start off by going over ou/ ow words.
  4. The teacher will go over phoneme categorization
  5. The teacher will go over blending words with /ou/ sounds
  6. T: Now, we are going to go over cause and effect. We are going to look for causes and effects throughout the story Head, Body, Legs: A Story From Liberia to help us better understand the plot.
  7. The teacher will go over cause and effect.
  8. The teacher will go over folktales and look at cause and effect chart.
  9. The teacher will begin a shared reading of Head, Body, Legs: A Story From Liberia.
  10. Teacher and students will fill out cause and effects throughout the story together using help chart.
  11. T: Great job! Today we began reading our new story Head, Body, Legs: A Story From Liberia and used causes and effects to help us understand the stories plot.
