F.B.I. Pattern Predictor

-Ask students "What are patterns?" Allow them to share with others or complete a gallery walk with questions about patterns. You may also choose to have real-world examples of patterns shown. Ask students when they have seen patterns or used patterns. 

-Help students understand how to find the next part of a pattern. Ask questions with examples. If students need additional help, call them to have a small group. You may also want to give examples on the board. Tell students that completing patterns is like being a detective. They must use all the clues given to solve the problem. This will set the stage for the activity. 

-Next, students will complete the interactive Google slide and code-cracking Google form. Allow students to complete the Google slide first. They will drag and drop shapes as well as fill in the correct numbers. You can edit this slide show and differentiate between students. 

-Once students complete the Google slide, they will fill out the Google form. This is similar to a breakout room. Students will not be able to move on to the next question if they do not have the correct code. This will allow students to see if their answers are correct. Make sure students use capital letters when typing the codes. *If you edit the Google slide, you may need to edit the form as well to match the responses.

Differentiation: You may need to extend direct instruction on pattern recognition. Consider an additional pattern video or sample items.

Extension: Have students create their own patterns with given rules.

Students will complete the Google form. You will know if students did not get the patterns correct based on if they are able to complete the form and crack the code.
