Earth's Landforms and Bodies of Water

1. Students will begin the lesson on the carpet.
2. The teacher will begin the lesson by explaining to students that they will be learning about land and water on earth, and how they can classify different bodies of water.
3. The teacher will read the story ‘Earth’s Landforms and Bodies of Water’ by Natalie Hyde. During the read-aloud, the teacher will stop and question students for understanding.
4. After the read-aloud, the teacher will pull up the PowerPoint. After the PowerPoint students will be sent to their tables to create a writing piece on something they learned from the lesson. They can choose a type of landform, or body of water. Students should not only create a writing piece, but also create a model of some sort, or drawing to go along with their writing piece.
5. Students will be given 20-25 minutes.
6. After the time is up, students will have the opportunity to come back to the carpet and share their work.
7. **If time allows, the teacher can show moving water video** (This can be done at the beginning, middle, or end of the lesson. Whatever fits your class best.)

Students will be assessed through questioning during the read-aloud. The students writing samples will also be taken up and viewed to check for understanding of the topic.
