Lesson Progression
Day 1
Pass out picture puzzles 1-10. Have students build the puzzle using the numbers (1-10) at the bottom. Have students count to 10 when the puzzle is built. Have early finishers do another puzzle.
Day 2
Repeat day 1 with picture puzzles first, then move on two set #2 of picture puzzles (11-20). Have students count from 1-20.
Day 3
Use hundreds grid to have students count aloud and trace the 10’s place. Do this several times, then without using a hundred grid, have students count chorally to 100 by 10s. Give the tens frame this time partially filled in, and have them complete it. Then, give students a blank tens frame, and have them fill it in counting by tens.
Day 4
Review by chorally counting by 1’s having each student do a group of 10. (Ex. Student one count 1-10, student 2 count 11-20, student 3 count 21-30, etc.) Do the same with counting by 10’s. Give students a blank number line, and have them start at any multiple of 10 and fill it in by counting by ones. Then have them start at ten, and fill it in counting by tens. To wrap it up, give students partially filled in a partially filled in hundreds chart and have them fill in the missing parts.
Teacher Notes
Differentiation: Pull small groups for remediation as necessary. Work with numbers 1-50 before adding 51-100.
Extension: Give students a random number between 1-100. Have them count up by intervals of 10s. Ex: 79: 89,99. Or 43: 53, 63.
