Comparing Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt societies

The first day students will study and analyze the social structures of both Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.  The teacher will explain how each civilization ranked different groups of people and the reasons way the valued the groups how they did.  This will all be covered with the guided notes.  Students will understand what makes certain groups more important than others in both Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.  The second day students will take the previous day's knowledge about the two social structures and will compare and contrast the two societies.  During the lesson the students will create a Venn diagram where the compare and contrast the two societies about who is considered more important.  Once the assignment is completed the class will discuss the Venn diagrams to get a more thorough understanding of why different groups were ranked differently.  After the discussion about the Venn diagram the students will be tasked with writing a 1-page essay explaining the similarities and differences between the two social structures.  Students will list similarities and differences and explain why groups were ranked differently by different civilizations.

Teacher should show the students images of both social structures as well as discussing how is more important and why.  The students will have to compare and contrast who is more important in which society and why they are ranked differently in different places.

Students will create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the social structures of Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt.  They will explain how the structures are different and similar.

Students will write a 1-page essay where they go into detail about how certain groups of people are ranked similar and how they are ranked different.  The student should also explain what reasons are for the different ranking of groups between the two civilizations.
