The students will explain the causes of the Civil War and how slavery played a role. The students will be able to identify and explain the economic, social, and cultural differences between the North and the South.

Lesson Progression
1. Students will watch the following video on Youtube and write 8 facts they learned while watching the video.

2. Then, students will watch another video from PBS Learning Media and write a reflection on what they learned from both videos. The students should include key details from the video, while also including their own thoughts.
3. Students will then click on the link below and watch the Crash Course Video Part 1 of the Civil War. https://scetv.pbslearningmedia.org/resource/d67abdb2-68bf-4bc4-a45d-96ef11d3e5c8/the-civil-war-part-1-crash-course-us-history-20/
Students should take notes while watching the video.

Students should take notes while watching this video as well.
5. After watching the videos and taking notes, students should create a presentation to represent the information they learned. Students should be creative in how they choose to represent it. (ex., written response with pictures, picture collage with explanation, a pamphlet, etc.)

Assessments
Students will be assessed on whether or not they were able to record 8 important facts from the video at the beginning of the lesson, and the reflection. Students will also be assessed by a rubric on the presentation created based on the information they record.
