Australia Day is an official Australian holiday was created to commemorate the landing of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788 and the raising of the Union Flag by Arthur Phillip. However, the celebrations that take place in present day focus on celebrating not only Australian history but the diverse populations and landscape. Celebrations take place all over the country where festivals and award ceremony are observed.
