A Snowbird Cherokee woman, Bessie Long, discusses basket making.
She says that she has been making baskets since she was small. She says that her Mama used to make baskets. That's what we lived off of back then. She says that her husband was away working with the company, and didn't make much, so she made baskets and raised her boys. Her husband says that there were a few houses where white people lived, and that's where he used to farm, and if it hadn't been for Santa Claus and those cabins, then he'd, "...have been by the road now...but I just quit...not enough work...not enough money."
