Sherman’s campaign was considered a success in the North, but his personal life, and early days in the Civil War were racked with difficulties. After the war, Sherman became the commanding general of the U.S. Army in 1869, after Ulysses S. Grant was elected President of the United States. William Tecumseh Sherman died on February 14th, 1891.
