Residents living in sea island communities off the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina seek fellowship in small churches known as “Praise Houses.” Some of these praise houses are still in operation today. Reverend Kenneth Doe, a praise house preacher in Georgetown, S.C., talks about the history of praise houses, how they bring people together, and why he feels maintaining praise houses are important to the lowcountry culture.
