Marjorie Wentworth - Author | The Big Picture

Kaltura

Meet Marjory Wentworth, one of the state’s most underappreciated artists. Wentworth, who is a poet laureate, discusses what exactly a poet laureate is. She completely breaks the expectations of what a poet laureate is, by being an active bundle of energy who participates in many different things: book publishing, writing, raising her three children, and being active in the lowcountry’s writing and art scene. Wentworth became South Carolina’s poet laureate in 2003, during Gov. Mark Sanford’s time as governor. At this time, South Carolina did not have a laureate.

Wentworth says that through the gift of poetry, a writer can articulate what others are feeling.
