Leon "Pappy" Self - Country Musician | 27:Fifty (1992) - Episode 3


Segment 2 follows musician and composer Leon “Pappy” Self. Leon is a fiddle player, whose been pickin’ and singing in Texas since 1931. He was hired by a band called The Light Crust Doughboys, to teach them a new song every week, along with teaching them to read music, since the band could not before.  He waxes rhapsodic about his experiences being on the road, his inspirations for playing music, and about his famous tune, “Orange Blossom Special.”
