Kennedy Space Center, Part 2 - The SS Central America | 27:Fifty (1992) - Episode 2

This segment begins with the Vehicle Assembly Building and the Saturn 5 rocket.

The next story is about the shipwreck of the SS Central America, a luxury passenger ship loaded with gold, that sunk off the coast of Florida. The Gold Rush is discussed, along with the '49ers. After six years of research and preparation, a small team of entrepreneurs set out to explore the wreckage. The final hours of the SS Central America were reconstructed, and technology was used to map the floor of the ocean. The Nemo was designed and built, enabling the equipment to go to the depths of the wreckage, where man could not survive under the pressure, some eight thousand feet below.
