Homecoming: Jonathan Green's Roots | Art of Jonathan Green and Leo Twiggs | Carolina Stories - Episode 2

Kaltura

Jonathan Green discusses how he was raised by his grandmother.  He had a large family and life was centered around Huspah Baptist Church often 2-3 times a week.

Green was born with a veil, a fact he claims marked his life from the beginning.

In the African culture, when you're born with this placenta membrane, you're between life and death, meaning that if it's not removed fast enough, you die. Children born with this veil, people question whether or not they are living and believe they live between worlds. Children are treated differently.

Jonathan Green says, "Everyone will find their way. It's a matter of being able to accept differences in our culture. I think my art, it has allowed me-- people have allowed me the space and the dignity and the grace to express these things."
