Hartsville, Part 5 - The Jacob Kelly House | Palmetto Places

Kaltura

The Jacob Kelly house in Hartsville is a prominent example of how houses “grow.” It began as a one story house, and gradually expanded into the plantation home we see today.  Joanna Angle chronicles the history of the Kelly family, the home, and their historic role in the War Between the States.

Like many homes from the period, the kitchen area was separate from the main home, to reduce fear of fire.  Thelma McKay Dudley joins Joanna Angle for a cooking demonstration, of hoecakes!
