Elizabeth Hanson - Author And Professor | 27:Fifty

Kaltura

Elizabeth Hanson is a professor of American literature at the College of Charleston.  Dr. Hanson aims to bring more respect and esteem to Southern women. Margaret Mitchell broke the mold with the character of Scarlett O’Hara in her novel Gone With The Wind, and Dr. Hanson aims to break the mold herself when it comes to Southern stereotypes, particularly those of Southern women. Dr. Hanson believes there is an image in the country of the South not being a place of intellect, and that it has lost the capacity for life of mind, if it ever had one.  Where women are seen as unproductive, uncritical, mindless beings. Dr. Hanson, through her own writing and research, proves that these stigmas could not be more wrong.
