Darlington, Part 3 - Historic Homes | Palmetto Places

One historic home in Darlington to survive destruction is the Wingate House, which is presently a funeral home.  Joanna Angle details the history of this prominent home. Joseph E. Wingate, who lived in the home, wrote a description of Darlington at that time, and left it in a time capsule, which was discovered one hundred and eight years later by carpenters, who were restoring the home. Another home with a colorful past is the antebellum period house built by Samuel H. Wilds, who was a member of the S.C. House of Representatives, and a Colonel in the South Carolina Volunteers, during the Civil War.
