Conway, Part 7 - Mary Brookman Beaty And Conway's Oak Trees | Palmetto Places

Kaltura

Conway’s oldest citizens are its large oak trees. Conway features over two hundred of them, and they are so cherished by the townspeople, that roads and side-walks meander around them. Joanna Angle discusses the Conway tradition of preserving these trees, and how Conway resident Mary Brookman Beaty prevented one of the trees from being cut down by a railroad company.  Her act of defiance inspired generations of Conway residents to preserve these trees. Joanna Angle gives a brief history of the life of Mary Brookman Beaty, also known as “the Queen of Conway.”
