In 1865, the town of Boykin was attacked by Union troops during the Civil War. The Union’s objective was to disrupt Confederate supply lines by cutting railroad lines. Brigadier General Edward Potter chose the famous Massachusetts 54th regiment to lead the campaign. This would later be known as "Potter's Raid." Civil War re-enactor Thomas McNeill Rose III retells what the battle was like. A six foot tall monument honors those who fought and died in the Battle of Boykin Mill.
