Bennettsville, Part 1 - History | Palmetto Places (1999)

Bennettsville was named for the state's newly elected governor, Thomas Bennett. The town was partially burned during the Civil War and was referred to as the "pretty little town" by Union Troops.

After the war two railroads lines opened up making the town a prosperous transportation center for Marlboro County's cotton market.
