Established in 1919, Allendale is South Carolina's youngest county. Bordered by the Salkehatchie River on the east and the Savannah on the west, both the county and the county seat was named for the first postmaster, Paul H. Allen. Archeological studies about prehistoric life have been taking place along the Savannah for many years. Take a stroll with Archeological Project Director, Dr. Al Goodyear to the Big Pine Tree site.
