Gettysburg: The Soldier's Battle

Through this series of educational broadcasts, rangers help students understand the lessons learned at Gettysburg National Military Park and the importance of preserving the battlefield.

Grades 3-12

Through this series of educational broadcasts, rangers help students understand the lessons learned at Gettysburg National Military Park and the importance of preserving the battlefield. The use of battle re-enactment footage and primary sources such as letters and journals brings the story of Gettysburg to life. This series provides an opportunity for students who can not visit Gettysburg to take a field trip to the battlefield park without leaving the classroom. This electronic field trip examines the Battle of Gettysburg through the eyes of ordinary soldiers. By following the stories of individual men on each side of the conflict, students will gain insight into their motivations for fighting, their weapons and living conditions, and the military strategies employed during this significant Civil War battle. NOTE: Originally broadcast May 20, 2004 (From our Streamline collection)
