He has been working to overcome his adversity, that being...Michael Tecklenburg, from Charleston, South Carolina, was born with a significant part of his hearing gone. Upon checking into the St. Louis Central Institute For The Deaf, Michael was declared "profoundly deaf." Michael and his family did not let his adversity hold him back from living a successful life. With determination, will, and hard work, Michael was able to not only overcome his adversity, but was able to get an education, and establish a name for himself in politics and law. He was the first deaf student to be accepted into the University of South Carolina's Honors College.
