14. Root Harvesting

Within cove forests grow medicinal plants, such as American ginseng, goldenseal and black cohosh. Unfortunately, excess harvesting of these plants is causing them to become increasingly rare. Laws are needed to protect these plants on public lands, such as our national parks and forests.  Unfortunately, the greatest threat is habitat loss.
