• Common perennial scattered throughout southern Appalachia
• Usually found near waterfalls
• Nicknamed Indian Trump
• Three large leaves radiate from top of stalk
• Flower is often hidden beneath the stalk
• Flowers appear in spring through summer
• Flowers are replaced by a black seed cluster that turns red in the fall
• Used medicinally by Native Americans
