Pinguicula lutea

  • Bladderwort Family (Lentibulariaceae)
  • Carnivorous herb 12.5 - 45 cm (5 - 18 inches) tall
  • Solitary, yellow flower at end of leafless, glandular stalk
  • Stalk rises from basal rosette of yellow-green, sticky leaves
  • Pretty flower
  • 2.5 cm (1 inch) tubular flower with 5 flattened lobes
  • Lower lobe tongue-like and spurred
  • Insects trapped by sticky leaves, then digested by enzymes
  • Habitat includes moist sandy areas
