  • Also called Quaker Ladies
  • Member coffee family
  • Name means "sky blue"
  • Perennial herb with shallow roots
  • Low-growing loose tufts 1 - 1.5 decimeters tall
  • Bright deep purple flowers bloom July to early August
  • Flower produces many-seeded capsule
  • Each stem of plant ends in a single flower
  • Four parts to the flower - very unusual
  • High elevation habitats includes cliffs, outcrops and steep slopes
  • Threatened by residential and recreational developments
  • Endangered species, Federal Register April 5, 1990
