The west wing of the lower lobby houses the office of the governor of South Carolina. It is here and in adjoining rooms that the chief executive officer of the state and his staff conduct the business of the people of South Carolina. Items of interest in the office include the fireplace and the marble floor.
Fireplace: The existence of this elegant fireplace in the office of the governor was unknown until workers discovered it while stripping away mahogany paneling during the State House renovations. The tile around the fireplace is original.
Marble Floors: Throughout the halls and offices of the governor’s wing, restored marble floors accent the open ceilings and spacious quarters.
