March on Washington - Crowd on the Mall

Dr. King traveled around the world giving speeches and organizing peaceful protests. He met with presidents to urge support for civil rights. His "I Have a Dream" speech was delivered in Washington, D.C., during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom in 1963. The speech is remembered as one of the most eloquent and persuasive speeches of the civil rights movement.

Seen here are some of the 250,000 civil rights marchers who attended the March on Washington in 1963.

"I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
