Minister Ricky McDuffie is the lead singer of Lil Ricky and the Mighty Gospel Stars. Other singers in the group include his brothers Rodney, Laytron, James, and sister Sharmekia. Laytron also plays keyboard and is the group's music director. Tyrone Hallman from Rowland, North Carolina, plays the organ, and the McDuffie's cousin Preston Teal is the drummer. The group was founded in 1985 by Rodney McDuffie. The minister's family has a tradition of singing quartet music and his father and paternal uncles performed as the Diamond Jubilee Singers of Bennetsville. McDuffie has been singing for over twenty years and teaches the art to his children. He is a regular performer at gospel events throughout the US.
